Who Writes This Site

My name is Shawn. I run Simply Connected, an in-home technology support service for seniors and seasonal residents in the Venice, Florida area — including communities like Stoneybrook and the surrounding neighborhoods that fill up every winter with snowbirds coming down from Ohio, Michigan, New York, and beyond.

Every week I sit at seniors' kitchen tables, set up their new iPads, fix their Wi-Fi, show them how to video call their grandchildren, and help them recover from tech scams. I've done this hundreds of times. I know which devices work well for older adults and which ones cause frustration. I know which features matter and which ones get in the way. I know which products earn rave reviews from my clients three months after I set them up — and which ones get shoved in a drawer.

That experience is what this site is built on.

Why I Started TechEase Reviews

When seniors and their families search online for tech advice, they mostly find two kinds of content: reviews written by tech enthusiasts who've never worked with older adults, and articles written by content agencies optimizing for clicks rather than accuracy.

Neither kind of review tells you what actually matters when you're buying a tablet for your 78-year-old mother who has never used one before. They don't mention that the text is too small by default, or that the charging cable is confusing, or that FaceTime won't work on a Fire tablet and that matters enormously if the rest of the family uses iPhones.

I write the reviews I wish existed when my clients' families call me asking what to buy. Plain English, honest tradeoffs, and recommendations grounded in what actually works in real senior households — not in a tech reviewer's home office.

Every product I recommend is one I've either set up personally for seniors or would confidently recommend to clients. I don't review products I haven't worked with in real homes.

No gigahertz, no benchmark scores, no jargon that means nothing to the person actually buying the device. I write the way I talk to clients: clearly, patiently, and without talking down to anyone.

Honest about limitations
If a product has a real drawback for seniors — short battery life, confusing setup, no FaceTime support — I say so. A recommendation that glosses over the problems isn't actually helpful.

I work primarily with seniors and seasonal residents in Southwest Florida. That context informs my recommendations — things like outdoor screen readability in bright sun, Wi-Fi reliability in large Florida homes, and the specific scams circulating in retirement communities.
